Strugis, SD 2010 - American Biker Project

Every year in August Sturgis South Dakota has it’s annual Sturgis Bike Rally. This year was the 70th.

I couple years ago I started series of black and white portraits entitled The American Biker Project. I drove around to a bunch of biker rallies on my HD Sportster and photographed as many true bikers as would let me.

This year I decided to go back to Sturgis and add to that collection. Here are a couple of the portraits I took with my Hasselblad 500cm, Kodak Tri-X400 film.

The bottom Picture, the guy just looks more real. To me his look just comes natural where the top guy forces his look. I really like the bottom picture because it looks like this guy has a past. meaning… look at his eyes, looks like he is trying to tell you something. That photo is just really bad ass because of how authentic he looks. Also just and amazing photo in general.
